Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda.

While most of the lake lies in Italy, the north end belongs to Switzerland and it is here that we find the town of Locarno. Locarno is the highest of the Swiss Riviera, blending the best of Swiss and Italian cultures – the warmth of Italy with the efficiency of Switzerland.

You can enjoy the many wonders of the region staying in a beautiful two bedroom apartment, only 50m from the lakeside with views over the lake to the mountains beyond.

Locarno has something for everyone – enjoy the beach and watersports including sailing, surfing and water skiing. Cruise to the islands of Isola Madre. Isola Pescatore and Isola Bella. Play 18 hole golf course, or go riding in the surrounding countryside.

The region has been named the 'sunny balcony of Switzerland', with a mild and pleasant climate from the beginning of spring right through to the end of Autumn. Skiing
Locarno's winter season is very different from that of the rest of Switzerland, with a much more tranquil and relaxed atmosphere.
Skiing is possible, at an altitude of 1671m (5482ft) on the Cardada-Cimetta, only 30 minutes above Locarno.
The resort has 5 pistes offering beautiful views of the lake and on a clear day you can see as far as the Italian border.
The nearby ski resort of Bosco Gurin also offers good skiing and snowboarding with cross country trails and halfpipes.

Other Leisure Activities.
Sport devotees can enjoy activities such as cycling, tennis, golf, horse riding, hiking, climbing, paragliding, swimming, windsurfing and sailing.
Others can get pleasure from a gentle walk along the beautiful lakeside promenade, through the subtropical gardens and through the historic centre, or can relax on one of the many lakeside cruises.
The 'Grande Lido di Ascona', the biggest outdoor swimming pool in the area, is situated directly on Lake Maggiore and includes a jumping tower and water slide.
Very good selection of restaurants
For young people there are open air concerts, disco nights on lake cruises and beach parties. Alternatively you can enjoy a visit to the theatre or the casino.
