CAPE VERDE, THE CITY OF MINDELO, THE RESIDENCE AND THE CLIMATE :

Cape Verde is an archipelago of 10 islands located 300 miles off the Senegal coast. This young State, former Portuguese colony, independent since 1975, is becoming the new destination for trekking, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, diving, canyoning and sport fishing.

Mindelo, the cultural and artistic capital, at the crossroad of three continents, is famous for its joyful way of life, its music, its dances, its singings, the "Morna" and the "Coladera", known worldwide thanks to Césaria Evora, who lives nearby.

From our small hotel you will have one of the most beautiful views in town. You will dominate the whole city, from the Porto Grande bay, known as one of the most beautiful in the world, to the Monte Cara. Also, facing, is the island of Santo Antão, from which you won't miss to discover the fantastic landscapes and abysses through the "Estrada Corda".

The water temperature ranges from 21 to 24 ° C depending the period of year and the air’s from 22 to 30 ° C. It hasn’t rained on the island of São Vicente for nearly four years… which is great news for tourists, certain to meet sunny weather, but create serious problems due to the lack of water, a precious good in Cape Verde.



ACTIVITIES:

The city centre is only a 5-10 minutes walk from our residence. Therefore all major attractions of Mindelo are easily accessible.

Sightseeing: the fish market, the covered vegetable market, the café Lisboa, the painting studio of the Figueira brothers, the Coopatec pottery workshop, the museum, the cultural center… are as many places to discover while you will get impregnated with the very special atmosphere of the city. For stone lovers, the magnificent governor’s palace, many houses with colorful facades and other buildings reflect the time when Cape Verde was a Portuguese colony. This colonial architecture is essentially located in the surrounding of the rua Lisboa and the bay front.

Nighlife and fetes: on evenings, Mindelo is a lively place, with notably great live music in restaurants and bars. There are also the Carnival (the whole population is in the street), the San Juan celebration and the famous Baia das Gatas festival in August.

Beaches: Laginha is located in the city, a mere 15-minute walk from our residence. If you use a vehicle (bus, taxi, rental car), many other beaches are accessible.

Trekking: on the island of São Vicente, hiking trails are mainly located around the Monte Verde (where you have a splendid view of the Mindelo Bay) and along the coast. On the island of Santo Antão, 30 minutes away by boat, they are countless and world-class treks.

Other: mountain biking, diving, windsurfing, canyoning, sport fishing, all these activities are available on the two islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão.

The code of the destination airport located on the island of São Vicente is "VXE".

From the UK, best is to flight to the island of SAL(“SID”) or Santiago (“RAI”, city of Praia) with Thomson flights (http://flights.thomson.co.uk) or TAP/TACV (the Portugal National Airline and Cape Verdean national airline are now collaborating for those routes).
Then you have the choice between Halcyon Air (http://www.halcyonair.com) and TACV to flight to São Vicente ("VXE”).

All visitors need a visa to enter Cape Verde.
